Interconnectedness & Complexity Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Interconnectedness & Complexity - Coursework Example Woodrow Wilson (1887) meant that the consideration of politics and administration as separate elements they serve different roles. For instance, politics deals with the laws governing the planning of an area while administration is the execution and maintenance of the plans (Rosenbloom, 2015). Despite the two should be separated, they still interact with the urban planning practices because of the laws and administration. In reality, politics control urban planning to promote the interests of the parties and this should not be used in the administration of the urban centers. The concepts of interconnectedness and complexity compare with the theory posited by Woodrow claiming that the administration is separate from politics through the principles involved when executing the concepts (Rosenbloom, 2015). This implies that the two concepts are separate but must be incorporated to produce the desired outcomes. This is because of the usefulness of the separate variables used to determine the traffic flow and enhance time saving. Woodrow claims that the two should be separated to influence distinctiveness and inclusivity (Levy,

Continuing Academic Success Essay Example for Free
Continuing Academic Success Essay There are many steps a student or employee can take to ensure success in any endeavor they may choose to undertake. Whether you are a first-time student or someone interested in getting ahead at work, finding your personal learning style is a great place to begin. Then you have a starting off point for using your strengths and improving weaknesses. My personal learning styles, feeling and doing, indicate that I learn best when I care about what Iââ¬â¢m learning, and when it applies to my life, and by physically doing something, like a lab which is usually very hands-on. Because getting my degree in order to improve my future is very important to me, caring about what Iââ¬â¢m learning, no matter the subject, is quite easy. It will also apply to my life after college, so the hands-on aspect is met in that way, in that I can see how the subjects might be used in my future. Another important step for success is to set small goals. This step allows for easy opportunities to do well while making progress towards the larger main goal. Finding and using all available tools is essential for success, as is being ethical; doing the best work possible will ensure the best results. With long term goals such as ââ¬Ëget a degree or ââ¬Ëget a promotion a raise or both, the amount of work can be daunting. Breaking those into smaller goals makes each step much easier to obtain. Those many small accomplishments can increase self-esteem, giving the student or employee a good sense of their ability to get things done, rather than faltering because they feel overwhelmed when looking at the big picture. In my situation, my long term goals are to graduate from college with a bachelors degree, and then start a career that will allow me to take care of my family if needed. These are connected, and looking at them in the long term is very stressful, andà overwhelming. Instead, Iââ¬â¢m just focusing on the class Iââ¬â¢m in at the time. If I can do well in my Foundations class, then Iââ¬â¢ll start my next session on a high note, feeling like Iââ¬â¢m already on the right path, and already succeeding. I havenââ¬â¢t set any small goals for my future career yet. Thatââ¬â¢s mostly because Iââ¬â¢ve only just started looking at the details of where I might want to work. I donâ⬠â¢t think Iââ¬â¢ll be sure what exactly I want to do until closer to graduation, and Iââ¬â¢m sure I wonââ¬â¢t know where until I know better ââ¬Å"whatâ⬠. Something I learned in this first class is that there is an easy to follow format for writing and that it can be used in many formats and situations. â⬠It can be referred to as the ââ¬Å"five paragraph essayâ⬠and consists of a thesis, three to five supporting paragraphs and a conclusion.â⬠(Halusska, 2006) Learning about this basic formula was a bit of an ââ¬Ëah-haââ¬â¢ moment for me. It gives a very basic way to write papers for just about any occasion that is easy to remember, and to follow. In any class where a paper is required, such as a book summary, lab results, or a short essay, this format can be applied. It also works for presentations, proposals or other professional writing settings. Using all of the resources available is a great way to ensure success. Knowing what those resources are, and how to find them is important as well. In the setting of the University of Phoenix, there are more tools for success than any college experience that Ive had before. The University Library is so much more than it seems. When I hear library, I think big building with stacks and stacks of books for all interests. The online library has that, but it also has tools like the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE), and the Center for Math Excellent (CME). I havent used the CME yet. Im fairly sure it will come into play in my next class. The CWE, however, has been an essential part of my current class. It has tutorials, live help, a grammar checker, free online plagiarism checker for students with percentage, a reference creating tool, and so much more. Another tool for success that I was introduced to recently is the ELI or Ethical Lens Inventory. Your ethical lens is your window to the world for decision making. There are several different perspectives to consider when trying to make an ethical decision, including whats best for the community (or whatever the group might be), versus whatââ¬â¢s best for yourself. In a professional setting, an employeeââ¬â¢s position (whether they are management or staff) might make a difference in how they perceive a problem, and how they come to a solution.à A manager might have the good of the company in mind while a staff member is likely more concerned with his or herself. McNutt, and Batho (2005) say, for example, ââ¬Å"Values are intimately connected with moral and ethical codes, and determine what people think ought to be done. The value set is composed of rights and duties. The distinction is reasonably straightforward. For the most part, rights and duties are the opposite ends of a given spectrum. If management [or] an employer have a duty to ensure reasonable standards of health and safety for workers, workers have a right to expect it. If it is believed or if it has become a norm that workers have a right to a minimum wage, then management as employers have a duty to pay it.â⬠In a school setting your ELI and critical thinking come into play in other ways. It is very important to cite ones sources when using anything other than your original thoughts in a paper. Anything less is plagiarism. This includes self-plagiarism, using your own previous work without citing that, unintentional plagiarism, not properly citing your source in a paraphrase or quote, and deliberately cutting and pasting someone elses work and claiming it as your own. Plagiarism doesnt just happen school, of course. Publishers see this quite often. The good news is that its becoming much more difficult to get away with using someone elses work. A great example of plagiarism in a professional setting co mes from Micron. They had to retract an article because they discovered that a micrograph was doctored with Photoshop. (Cox, Braet, Egerton 2014). Critical thinking, or looking at a situation in a clear, rational yet open-minded way, is very important no matter your situation. A good example of using critical thinking is when you must determine if a source you want to use is credible. You must consider many factors when deciding on the source. This is one major downside of using the internet for research. A lot of sources might be biased, or not well researched. When using outside sources its a good idea to check that there are references given, and also to check those references. Its also important to look at the URL of the resource. Dot Coms are often business oriented, and less reliable due to advertising involvement. Some good websites might be college pages or non-profit organizations, with authors who are authorities in the field theyre discussing. It is never a good idea to use sites like Wikipedia. They are authored by the general public, and while some articles are well documented, the majority are not. Thinkingà critically can be a challenge, but it is also a learned skill, which means there are several ways to improve your ability. Knowing that youre going to have to make a decision is the first step and includes knowing what your options are. It also means acknowledging that when you have made a choice, your other options are no longer viable. Youââ¬â¢ve chosen a path, and must move forward. Before you can do that, however, you must define your priorities. What is the desired outcome? The decision you make should focus on that, and move you toward some goal. If it looks like there are no good solutions, the best option might be to wait to make any decisions. Often other options will present themselves. Your situation might change, or you might think if something you hadnââ¬â¢t considered before. (Ellis Toft, 2014) All of these tools combine and work together to enhance your ability to meet your goals. They can be applied separately or together to make good choices, reach your goals, professional or academic, and succeed at life. Whether youââ¬â¢re a student or a professional, using ethics, critical thinking, formulaic writing, will lead to positive outcomes. References Halusska, J. C. (2006, Dec). Helmi Flick :: essays research papers
Helmi Flick lives in Bedford, Texas with her husband, Ken, a freelance writer who also does the lighting and cat wrangling for her, plus her 4 cats. Having spent 30 years of her working life in administrative office positions in computers, medicine and law, Flick came to her new career by the route most people only dream of: by turning something she loved to do into a new profession. After years of photographing her own cats and those of friends as a hobby, Helmi was encouraged by her husband Ken to try her hand as a cat show photographer. Helmi got her first assignment from the Thunderkatz Cat Club as the show photographer for their May 2000 T.I.C.A. show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, U.S.A. On the basis of her work at that show, the Thunderkatz club asked Helmi to be their "Official Show Photographer in Perpetuity." By March of 2001, Helmi had managed to secure the Show Photographer assignment at 12 shows. Helmi shoots with a digital camera. "Shooting digital images has been a lifesaver for me because cats are not the most cooperative subjects and there are always more throwaway shots than good ones. And because Iââ¬â¢m not wasting film, I can afford to shoot far more images of a customerââ¬â¢s cat to get more keepers. Additionally, the "instant" nature of digital photography enables my customers to immediately review the shots Iââ¬â¢ve taken and select the ones they like best to be printed. This review process is a tremendous tool for someone like me who is still learning this craft, since Iââ¬â¢m able to discover the kinds of shots that owners of different breeds prefer. I guarantee that my customers will be satisfied with their photos and the digital approach is a great asset there, too, because if a customer does not see photos he/she likes in our post-shoot review, I can reshoot their cat on the spot." But getting good shots at the show is only the beginning of delivering great images to her customers. Because Helmi shoots digital images, she has the capability to color correct, crop, retouch and otherwise enhance every photo on her computer back home. "I canââ¬â¢t ignore that capability because I want every shot to be the best image it can be, so I end up spending far more time at my PC screen than behind the camera.â⬠The ability to instantly analyze and digitally retouch her photographs does not change the skill needed to capture beautiful images of her feline subjects.

Clarkson Lumber Company Pro Forma Statement Essay
Assumptions. We build pro-forma statement mostly based on the assumptions given in the case. Other assumptions are following. At first, we assume that the tax rate is an average of tax rates for the past three years which is 20. 1%. We use this tax rate to calculate the provision for income taxes for following years. Next assumption is that we take Mr. Dadgeââ¬â¢s approximation for the initial rate as the interest rate, 11%. Since Mr. Clarkson finished payment to Mr. Holtz in 1995, we assume that only the bank loan to Suburban National Bank and Northrup National Bank are the interest-bearing liabilities for 1996 through 1999. For account payable period, we calculated two numbers, 53. 62 days for 1995 and 54. 86 for the first quarter of 1996. We used the payable period for 1995 to calculate the accounts payables for the forecasted years because, as mentioned in the case, Mr. Clarksonââ¬â¢s business has some seasonality so hat the payable period for the only first quarter of 1996 would not fully reflect for a whole year. We decided not to include 2% discounts for early payment to the suppliers on our income statement because of the payable period. We also assume that Mr. Clarkson issued no new equities and paid no dividends during the forecasted years. Only source of the change in the net worth is the net income for the same period. New credit line. The new credit line of $750,000 would be sufficient only for 1996 and 1997. The bank loan would exceed the credit line to 858,000 and 1,109,000 for 1998 and 1999, according to our pro forma statement. Without the approval of the bank, Mr. Clarkson would not be able to expand his business at the current growth rate after 1998. With the assumption of sales growth rate of 25%, the external financing required has become double from $493,000 in 1996 to $1,109,000 in 1999. Since the new credit line is fixed at $750,000, Mr. Clarkson would have to find other ways of financing the operation such as issuing new equity.

After Reading “The Nightingale and the Rose”
ââ¬Å"The Nightingale and the Roseâ⬠Oscar Wilde Topic: What do you think about the statement: ââ¬Å"Life is very dear to allâ⬠Almost people realize that life is really marvellous when they are in the boundary between life and death. Even the nightingale could see so clearly that she cried ââ¬Å"Life is very dear to allâ⬠as she knew the price that she had to pay for getting a red rose.In the nightingaleââ¬â¢s eyes, life gives her a large number of nice things such as watching the golden Sun, the pearly Moon and the natural sweet. People do not have the good sense of those like the bird. However, they know that love is one of the most beautiful given things. That is a long-lasting and great relationship in the birdââ¬â¢s thought. Because of this, she was willing to give up her life to bring the Student a gift which would make him happily. The birthââ¬â¢s death to have a red rose seems to be the thing that life gave to the Student. Thanks to the bird, he had a rose to give to his loved girl. ââ¬Å"Life is really dear to allâ⬠is the statement that leads people to many thoughts. Life is not nice all the times. In another words, it gives people a lot of drawbacks. However, each day is an unforgettable moment, and each disadvantage is a lesson to help people become more mature. ââ¬Å"Life is really dear to allâ⬠when people are contented with all they have now.
